Held on 6 December 2018 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Web Summit 2018 (VWS 2018) is the largest annual festival day for developers and marketers relating to the Web industry. The event was organized by TopDev in collaboration with the Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM).
Countless individuals gathered to enjoy over 100 in-depth topics, presentations and thought-provoking discussion relating to the areas of web, e-commerce, payment, and digital marketing. A fascinating lineup of keynote addresses and top-tier panel discussions with elected leaders, industry giants and entrepreneurs kept attendees energized throughout the time. This year’s sessions included representatives from well-known internet and tech companies such as Google, Nielsen, Lenovo, Zalo Business, Tiki, Haravan, etc.

Mr. Jackie Khoa Pham – Product Manager of Infinito was on stage with a high-impact speech entitled “Blockchain development – Ride the golden wave and not get left behind,” which left the audience feeling enlightened and inspired.

Technological advancements are disrupting virtually every sector of society, and blockchain’s potential to be at the forefront of the next revolution was apparently on the minds of attendees during the thought-provoking presentation of Mr. Pham.
Pham delivered industry inspired insight into blockchain development and how it can drastically alter almost every industry. With its immutability and decentralization characteristics, blockchain is the perfect paradise for assets to be held and interact with – whether they are intellectual properties, traditional investment, or land and house properties.

With many countries starting to see the benefits that blockchain can bring, Jackie went on discussing some real-world use cases of blockchain, for examples, renewable energy, supply chain, insurance, health care, and real estate. Data transparency and authentication are made much easier with the integration of blockchain, which helps prevent malicious duplications, removes third parties and reduces any associated costs.
On the second part, he briefly introduced the ultimate Infinito Ecosystem, an integrated infrastructure for dApps, blockchain services, and token holders that powers the safe and efficient utilization of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. Following the presentations of Jackie Pham, there were other blockchain related topics presented by Mr. Nguyen Minh Thao – CEO of Umbala and Mr. Vu Quang Thuy – CTO of AltTekGlobal. Bringing to the stage the enlightening topic entitled “Blockchain consensus algorithms explained”, Mr. Nguyen from Umbala underlined that consensus algorithms are the primary root of blockchain technology. Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and smart contract platforms like Ethereum are recent examples of the evolution of consensus algorithms blockchain represents.
Subsequently, Mr. Vu Quang Thuy – CTO of AltTekGlobal went on to discuss how blockchain has the potential to solve important glitches in traceability. He explained that blockchain can be seen as a lifeline for businesses facing the issue of transparency in their supply chain. He further exemplified his point by stating that Walmart and nine other companies including Nestle SA, Unilever NV, Driscoll, Tyson have partnered with IBM to create a blockchain platform for the global supply chain.
VWS 2018 was hailed a success with a range of thought-provoking presentations
Apart from the topic of blockchain technology, audiences are also exposed to the latest developments and insights into major relevant topics from Fintech, deep learning, E-commerce metrics, to data acquisition, product design, business intelligence and growth hacking in marketing. Particularly, experts predict that business intelligence is one of the directions Vietnamese businesses need to pay attention if they want to reach out to international markets. They also underlined the importance of adopting technology enhancements in business practices, especially blockchain technology. Up-and-coming industry 4.0 technologies will give businesses a huge boost, optimize costs, increase revenue, and further improve customer experience.
